abstractText  Full text of MNL contribution: Robertsonian fusion metacentrics: Referring to the Editor's Note on page 2 of MNL No. 56 (February 1977) we present in the following a revision of Table 1 published in "E. Capanna et al., Robertsonian metacentrics in the mouse, Chromosoma (Berl.) 58, 341-353 (1976)". This revision includes (a) an adaptation of the series designations of new metacentrics to existing rules of nomenclature and (b) a correction of the chromosome arm assignments of metacentrics of the "CD" and "CB" series. Moreover, (c) three new series of metacentrics found in separate mouse populations from Italy are described. ad (a): The quite unexpected frequency and complexity of metacentrics in feral populations of the house mouse (M. musculus) and the assumption that their occurrence is not only the result of independent events but also of a spread among a multitude of geographically more or less separated demes, were the reason for our earlier proposal to use a geographic epinym instead of a new series symbol in case of the repeated discovery of a metacentric of the same arm composition. Leaving out of consideration certain scruples about problems coming up by applying the nomenclature in force, we should like to present a corrected version of Table 1 in Capana et al., Chromosoma 58, 341, 1976. ad (b): Repeated checks of meiosis I pairing behaviour of hybrids between "Pos", "CD", "CB" and recently accessible new populations (s. below), and of hybrids between carriers of isolated metacentrics of these series, made an exchange of arm assignments between three metacentrics of the "CD" and two of the "CB" series necessary. The corrections according to (a) and (b) lead to the following revision of Table 1. This is at the same time a correction of some of the designations given in MNL No. 56, pp. 46-47, 1977. ad (c): During early 1977, three additional feral mouse populations, provisionally designed "Alpi Orobie", "ACR" and "Lipari" from different parts of Italy have been studied. Mice deriving from these populations were trapped by E. Capanna (Roma). The stocks were established in the laboratory in Lubeck, where the identification of the metacentrics (using fibroblast cultures of heterozygotes and G-band staining of mitotic chromosomes as well as breeding of complex heterozygotes and meiotic pairing analysis in oocytes and spermatocytes) was done by H. Winking, A. Gropp and G. Noack in collaboration with E. Capanna. The recently discovered metacentrics were designed with the symbol "Lub" (standing for Lubeck, Medizinische Hochschule, Abteilung fur Pathologie). They are listed in the following Table 2.
